Carnt Sleep

I seem unaccustomed to writing, creating and dreaming right now. I'm not sure how it happened but over the course of the past year and a half I have completely dropped the ball on my pursuit for new ideas. As part of my continual pursuit of creativity I keep images, words, ideas of inspiration... both in a big red book and tacked on a board in my office1. When I am functioning at full creative capacity I am actively photographing, dreaming and writing. Somehow with the pressures of late and the dual workloads a bit of that has been thrown to the side like a discarded can of ginger ale.

I think the time and place is quickly approaching for me to take my discarded empty feeling and recycle it into a new creative venture. Perhaps in the ideal of reuse, reduce and recycle it should be a re-investment into something previously enjoyed... say writing and photography? I have been forcing myself to carry my SLR camera again. It became a pain to drag it around the clunky Pentax so when my last pocket shooter broke I bought a not-so-great2 new one. When it became such a pain to capture a good photograph, I stopped looking for the different angles, the interesting light, those little details I used to love to explore. I need to reinvest in a small camera that can come with me wherever I go, but I also have to force myself to get back into the habit of working with it. I need new inspiration but I do realize that am going to have to actively seek it out.

1 See above. I love the colors, texture and form of the dancing girl. I find myself staring at this over my right shoulder pretty regularly.
2 I will never buy an Olympus again.
