I am a big design nerd.

I am a big design nerd. Don't ask me how much I just paid for a simple calendar...

Just know that it was MUCH LESS than what it would have cost me in £ if I had bought it on the excursion to the design museum. Just admire it for a minute will you? A... it's timeless (literally). B... it's gorgeous. C... it's clever as all get out D... perfect for the theme I have going in my new workspace of bright red and lime green.

In other news I am in search of a coffee cup. Not just a coffee cup... THE COFFEE CUP. I spied this in Copenhagen last September but didn't pick it up for reasons too feeble to admit to the world. Designed by Dane Ole Jensen and produced by Holmegaard for Royal Copenhagen... it's called "Ole" and is perhaps the most beautiful coffee cup I've ever seen in my life, and it's all in it's simplicity and flow. Behold... Ole.

I am actively searching for somewhere in Chicago that one can purchase said cup but if all else fails I *will* order it from Denmark and at least it will be VAT free. In my search for coffee cup perfection I did come across a knockoff... it's not wholly evil but could you have possibly ripped it off even more even down to the 3 letter name "Ego"? I'll hold out for the nicer cup and the original idea, thanks though iittala.

The top mug is quite beautiful, however I have seen/purchased the bottom on at I.D. on Clark, just north of Belmont.

It's just a little more fragile and in my opinion only, trying to compensate with that round/square thing going on. I would probably have fallen in love with it when I picked it up at Fields... if I hadn't seen the top coffee cup months earlier. I've searched all over the city and discovered there's not a single place in this city that one can purchase Holmegaard... so I'm going to end up having it shipped from Denmark in the next few weeks.

This is the other coffee accessory I'm obsessed with this week...

I'd *love* the stainless steel version without the handle. The shape and design is so sexy! There's no way I can justify the price tag however. Hmph.

Ah yes, the Eva Solo-- a lot of their line is very nice. However, I am not familiar with Holmegaard... will have to do research! You may not know this, but the product design firm I work for does A LOT of coffee related products-- we design + manufacture a wide array for a certain mega-coffee shop chain that seems to pop up on every corner...

Holmegaard is the "glassware" division of Royal Copenhagen. At least they always were in the past.

Now it appears that Royal Copenhagen is releasing more modern dinnerware/ceramics/etc under the Holmegaard name.

When I was a kid I always loved Holmegaard, based upon the glasses and things my parents would receive as gifts from a Danish friend. I visited their glassworks outside Copenhagen when I was a kid. It is somplace I intend to go back to again because even at that young age I was in awe of the craftsmanship. At my parent's house I have a various sets of "ship's glasses" (no idea the actual product name, that's what my father has always called them... I'm sure their discontinued now). They're locked in a china cabinet but one day I shall retrieve them. Perhaps when I eventually to stop breaking glasses when I do the dishes. ;-)

So you do "coffee related products" for a to-be-un-named coffee retailer? That's pretty cool. I'm currently on the lookout for a good travel mug. The problem is that I *LIKE* coffee and don't want a wimpy 14 or 16 oz container. The other problem is that I like clean design and simple curves. Every manufacturer I come across seems to put extraneous and often ridiculous details on such things. There are a few I've seen in various coffee shops that intruige me but I prefer not to have a brand name printed on the side of my mug so that basically knocks out every mug I'd find in a coffee shop.

Basically I want an Eva Solo flask but don't want to spend $85 for it. :p I'm tired of good design costing so much. Can you design me something nice for under $40? ;-)

I neglected to mention that IF you design me a nice coffee mug I'll do the most fantastic packaging you've ever seen... so you can sell it retail :p
